The most disastrous wedding I had ever seen

My friend was married six years ago. It was early October and a dampish, chilly day, but not wintry. In her plan a photographer was her first priority. He was well-known in the Ethiopian community, and his portfolio was amazing. She therefore agreed with the cost of £2,800.00 for the wedding package.
The bride was wearing a long sleeved, ivory dress and the bridesmaids were in red coloured dresses. They all looked gorgeous. The tiny living room was well decorated and filled with beautiful, fresh flowers.
The bride was expecting the photographer to arrive earlier. In contrast, the limousine she hired with sixteen seats arrived earlier than he was expected.
Half an hour later the photographer arrived. This was the first time he showed up at her house. He started to complain about the lack of heat, then he asked the bride’s younger sister, “Are you really wearing your hair like that?” He continued ordering everybody to move this way and that to take the photographs.
Meanwhile the driver reminded the bride that she had only 10 minutes left. But he was insulted by the photographer, and he left her with no explanation. She telephoned the company and the response was negative. Tears washed away her makeup and she was more upset than ever.
At last she decided to decorate family’s and friends’ cars and an hour later she arrived at St Mary’s Church. As she walked with her brother to the church aisle, her brother covered her face with her veil. But he was interrupted by the photographer. “NO veil over the face! It will look bad in the photos”, he said and moved her from her brother’s left side to the right. This time she shot him with dirty looks.
Throughout the day he yelled and criticised her for not being fast enough. I felt very bad and angry about the situation. Generally, the day was horrible, but she was a very brave lady, because she resisted the challenges. At present she lives with her family in London.

  2. I really enjoyed your story Wuditu. What a nightmare, but your description of the terrible photographer made me laugh. You structured your story really well using paragraphs and your use of descriptive language (excellent adjectives) brought the story to life. Well done!

    My Biography

I left school when I was 15½. I was not into education because I found it boring. I wanted to get married and have a family and not a career. But I did not think that I would regret it later in life.

I always remember what my maths teacher said. He would always tell us to study. If we didn’t we would regret it later in life. I would find it funny and I would always think to myself, “What regrets?” I would never regret it, but I do regret it.

I wish I had studied and had a career, which I don’t at the moment. I think an education is very important. I tell my children to study, do well, get better jobs and have no regrets like me.

  4. This is a lovely piece of autobiographical writing which we can all relate to. What if we had made different choices earlier in our lives? What would we be doing now? It's never to late and I am absolutely certain, Naseem, that you will have the chance to do something you really want to do outside the home in the future.

    The Angel

When it comes to happiness there isn’t much I can say . I do have one thing I’m really proud of and it was the most happiest of time in my life .Giving birth to my beautiful daughter , Sama.
No one needed to tell me what to do or who to care for a child for I was a natural mother .
She was born on the Eid day , in the early winter morning around 2 am .
Ever since I can remember I’ve told myself “ I will do everything the way nature intended me to do” and so I did . That day I felt as though I’d achieved something in life .
My heart floods with happiness from the smile she give to me ,every moment of the day .
The smile of an angel .

  7. Story about myself

The first time I watched TV I was in my sewing class. The lady who was teaching me sewing one day put the TV on and I had never seen the TV before in my life.

When the TV came on, it was the News. The lady who was reading the News was very smart and it seemed to me she was looking at me. I started tidying up around me, picking up cotton thread and started folding the material. When my teacher saw that she said, "What are you doing? It's not your time to go and you have already tidied up." I said, "I can't tell you, she is watching me". My teacher said, "Who?" and I said, "The lady in the TV". My teacher said, "She can't see you."
