Know Your Rights

Christmas is a time when we do a lot of shopping.  Perhaps you have bought things in the January sales.  But what do you do if you are unhappy about the quality or performance of the goods you have bought?  Today we will look at your rights under the Sale of Goods Act and look at the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods of making a complaint.

Going back to the shop

Make a list of the tips you would give to someone who would like to be more confident in going back to a shop to complain.  think about:

  • How to prepare yourself before you go in;
  • How you begin;
  • How to keep calm;
  • How you end the conversation.

  7. I would be calm even if I am angry. This is because being aggressive could cause me to lose my statutory rights.

    Be polite and petient and try to listen carefully what the shop assisstant is saying, so you can explaine what is wrong with the product you bought.

  9. When going to complain for something you bought from a shop or company please remember you most show some respent to the staff or the shop keeper. Also go with the demaged item which you bought,than speak carefully and respentfuly to the manger or the shop keeper. Remember always not to be very angry because if you are too angry the manger or the shop keeper will use it in to their own advantage. Make them realise that you know your rights, and they will respent you and refund you. From Joh .A

  10. Know Your Right
    Before you complain
    First of all, you should be clear about what you see as the fault in the item you have bought.
    The Sale and Supply of goods Act 1994 gives you certain rights when you buy goods from a trader.
    You can expect a refund for goods if
    1. They are not of satisfactory quality
    2. They are not fit for their purpose
    3. They are not as described
    This is called statutory rights.
    Gather together everything you can by way of evidence like a receipt. You should also act quickly.
    Report the fault to the seller as soon as you can. Be clear about what you want while remaining polite.
    Back up your claim in writing.
